Social media. On your terms.
The FrontPorch philosophy
A place for people. Room for different opinions. A little more control over your own corner of the internet.
People, not algorithms.
You should be able to catch up with people without wondering why a feed chose one post over another. FrontPorch displays posts chronologically, newest first. We do not rank the feed by engagement.
You choose your connections. Personal Crowds help you organize your friends and choose which of them see a post. Our direction is simple: give people understandable choices, rather than make those choices for them.
Social media on your terms.
Different kinds of connections deserve their own spaces. Here is the design we are building toward:
- My Porch
- Mutual friendships and personal connections. This is the space available in private testing.
- Town Hall — planned
- Political candidates, elected officials and government organizations, with public accounts and followers.
- Main Street — planned
- Businesses, brands, creators, celebrities and other public figures.
- Community Crowds — planned
- Shared-interest communities with their own discussions and moderation.
Your friends are still your friends when they discuss politics. A political opinion posted by a personal friend stays in My Porch; we do not automatically classify it or move it somewhere else.
Privacy you can understand.
Personal posts are for accepted friends. Choose Everyone to share with all of your current friends, including those outside any Crowd, or choose Selected Crowds to share with friends in at least one of those Crowds. Friends in overlapping Crowds see one copy.
Unfriending or blocking someone removes their access to your personal posts, including older ones, on later requests. It cannot take back screenshots, downloads or copies someone already made. Your arrangement of Personal Crowds is private to you.
Community membership and public follows must never unlock private personal posts. We do not sell your personal data. Read our draft Privacy Policy for the current implementation and its limits.
Freedom of expression, with accountability.
You do not have to agree to belong here. Unpopular, controversial and political opinions are not violations just because someone dislikes them.
Threats, targeted harassment, scams, impersonation, spam and unlawful activity are different. Our Community Guidelines explain the conduct we do not allow. Our standard for moderation is fair, documented and viewpoint-neutral decisions.
Free for everyone.
FrontPorch accounts and essential social networking features will always be free. Being part of the conversation should not depend on being able to pay.
We are building carefully, starting with the basics. We will distinguish what works today from what is still being built—and keep listening as FrontPorch grows.
