Terms of Service — draft

A starting point for review, not a finished legal agreement.

Draft identifier: terms-draft-2026-10-24 · No effective date has been assigned.

1. Service and eligibility.

FrontPorch is the independent social networking project at frontporch.social. The legal operator's identity and appropriate contact details must be supplied before this draft takes effect. Public registration is closed.

Proposed eligibility: you must be at least 13 and meet any higher minimum age, consent or other eligibility requirements applicable where you live. Where legally required, a parent or guardian must authorize your use. Local requirements may restrict access even with parental permission. This proposed policy is not a claim that 13 is a universal legal minimum; age handling and launch regions still require review.

2. Your account.

Provide accurate registration information, verify your email, protect your credentials and do not give others unauthorized access. Do not impersonate others or evade an account restriction. Usernames must be unique; display names may be shared. Optional two-factor authentication and recovery codes are available. You are responsible for protecting those codes and for activity you authorize.

3. Acceptable use.

Follow the Community Guidelines and laws that apply to your use. Do not threaten, harass, exploit children, share nonconsensual intimate images, scam, impersonate, infringe rights, spam, misuse reporting or bypass security controls. You are not prohibited from expressing an opinion just because it is controversial or political.

4. Your content and the permission needed to run FrontPorch.

You retain ownership of your content. You must have the rights or other lawful basis needed to share it.

Proposed license: by submitting content, you grant FrontPorch a nonexclusive, worldwide, royalty-free permission to store, reproduce, resize or reformat, transmit and display it only as needed to operate, secure and deliver the service according to your audience settings, including through service providers acting for that purpose. This does not transfer ownership or permit sale of your personal data. It does not grant public access to private posts.

The license should end when content is permanently removed from the service, except for limited retention needed for backups, security, legal obligations and dispute handling. Current deletion and retention tools do not yet fully implement that lifecycle. Counsel must finalize this language together with a verified deletion policy; choosing Delete post today hides it from normal views and is not immediate erasure of every stored copy.

5. Moderation, restrictions and ending use.

FrontPorch may need to remove content or limit access to address violations, legal obligations, security risks or harm. Decisions should be proportionate, documented and viewpoint-neutral. Current moderation and the unfinished enforcement and appeals features are explained in the Guidelines.

You can stop using FrontPorch and log out. A self-service account deletion process has not been implemented. The public request form accepts account, data and appeal inquiries; secure verification and the full closure/deletion and appeal workflows remain incomplete.

6. Copyright complaints.

Do not post material that infringes copyright. Before launch, FrontPorch must publish an appropriate copyright contact, decide and implement its DMCA process, and address notices, counter-notices and repeat infringement. No designated copyright agent or legal mailing address has been published or verified for this draft. Do not treat an ordinary content report as a completed statutory notice procedure.

7. Availability, limitations and liability.

FrontPorch is in private testing. Features may change or be interrupted. We do not promise uninterrupted availability, error-free operation or absolute security. Keep copies of material important to you.

Proposed legal approach, subject to applicable law and counsel's review: provide the service on an as-available basis and limit warranties and liability only to the extent law permits, without excluding nonwaivable consumer rights, liability that cannot legally be limited, or mandatory remedies. No numerical liability cap, indemnity, arbitration requirement or class-action waiver is adopted in this draft.

8. Disputes and applicable law.

Governing law, court location, any dispute process and the effect of consumer protections have not been selected. Those decisions depend on the actual operator and places served. This draft does not choose a jurisdiction or require arbitration.

9. Changes and contact.

Before adopted terms become effective, FrontPorch should publish a version and effective date, describe material changes, provide notice where required and record acceptance when appropriate. This draft is not accepted by a checkbox or by continuing to browse these pages.

Support explains the current contact limitations. The operator, verified email and response coverage, age process, retention rules and final legal provisions require owner approval and professional review before public launch.
